Day Two: Day Harder

Didn't quite get started on the writing today. Still in cleaning mode. Took the car in to Bluewave Car Wash in Westwood, my usual place (and I don't use the word "usual" casually; that's actually the only place I've ever taken my car since I've lived here). Asked for the $20 wash, and as always got suckered into the more expensive wash (normally $50, knocked down to $40). Well, there's a chance that the car hasn't been washed in a year, so I don't think that's paying too much. On the way back I went to Bed Bath & Beyond and picked up a new toilet seat to replace the standard-issue seat that everyone tells me I need to get rid of because it's soft and therefore traps germs. I thought taking the old seat off and putting on the new one would be about as easy as switching out a DVD player, but I seem to have been overly optimistic. So I'm letting the new seat sit next to the tub for a little while in the hopes that the two seats will just kind of make the swap on their own.

Also got a good start on the room-cleaning front. I got most of the extraneous non-clothing items out of my room and into either the trash or an appropriate closet/shelf/whatever. And I actually opened my extremely heavy "to-be-filed" drawer and went through everything in there. I'm talking bank statements dating back to 2001 and my lease from three apartments ago. Now, every one of those things is either in the trash or in a clearly marked manilla envelope. That's what I call progress. I'm not done yet--the room still wouldn't fit even a teenage pothead's definition of clean--but it is, as I said a few sentences ago, a good start.

Tomorrow I visit the dentist, and for once that doesn't mean a round trip from the Valley. If I were feeling really health-conscious I'd even walk, but it's 6 miles each way according to MapQuest and I think I'd have a hard time merging onto the 405 on foot. Not saying it can't be done; I'd just have to tone my calves a bit.
