Day Twenty-Nine: leap year

After just about a month of unemployment, I think I've settled into a comfortable daily pattern:

1. Wake up anywhere between 9:15 and 11:00.

2. Check email. (There isn't any.)

3. Have cereal and watch Tivoed episode of Seinfeld, Family Guy, or the like.

4. Have 2 vegetarian sausage patties and continue watching TV, either on DVDs or the Tivo.

5. Since TV alone is insufficient entertainment, simultaneously use WiFi laptop to check email, read meaningless websites, etc.

6. After a couple hours of this, realize that it's now the early afternoon and I have yet to accomplish anything.

7. Shower, get dressed, etc.

8. Do something to occupy the bulk of the afternoon (errands, long walk, cleaning, etc.).

9. Now that most of the day is over, take laptop to the nearest Coffee Bean and start writing. Interrupt flow of writing as frequently as possible by attempting (fruitlessly) to connect via WiFi to some computer somewhere that's just slightly too far to get a signal. When that fails, interrupt flow of writing with FreeCell.

10. Quickly drink one of the Coffee Bean's many sweet, fattening Ice Blended drinks to justify taking up a table for a couple of hours.

11. In the midst of all this, actually get a small amount of writing done. Enjoy brief sense of accomplishment and remind self that J.K. Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter book in a coffee shop while unemployed -- and hell, if she can become a billionaire synthesizing some verbose kiddie books out of Roald Dahl and "Magic: The Gathering," then there must be hope for me, too.

12. Walk home from Coffee Bean while attempting to hold on to sense of accomplishment.

13. Find some sort of social gathering or event to fill in rest of evening; barring that, watch a DVD and/or more Tivo.

14. Play Crazy Taxi, read book, go to bed.
