Hostile Takeover

Hello to everyone out there in Unemployment Blog Land. I am hereby taking over this blog in anticipation of my own unemployment in the near future.

I am currently still working at a small independent music publishing company in Hollywood. My job is super-cool. I pitch indie music to film and TV. I work on one of the most distracting streets in LA - Larchmont Boulevard. My boss puts up with all my crazy quirks and hang-ups, and doesn't get too mad at me for being late pretty regularly. I always have the latest and sexiest Apple equipment which at the moment includes a Cinema Display so large that people can walk into my office and not see me working behind it.

I hate my job. I want out. I've been wanting out since around July when it dawned on me that nothing I do here matters to anyone. In November, my boss started noticing that I had been underperforming and began questioning whether or not I belong at this company anymore. Things around the office started getting a little uncomfortable. In December I took a week-long vacation which I spent sobbing on my couch. It's now January and I have decided to take a break from my career. I'm waiting to have the Talk of Doom with my boss about my departure. It was supposed to be today but he rescheduled for Thursday. It was actually supposed to be in early December but he's been rescheduling ever since. Meanwhile, I'm existing with a storm cloud over my shiny Apple G4.

I hope to do as good a job as Nick did with this blog, updating it every day once I'm officially unemployed and changing the little blog description (even though they will be nowhere NEAR as entertaining. But I'll try.) My plan is to quit, spend 6-8 weeks writing a book and getting my shit in order, and jumping back into the workforce with renewed corporate vigor. But if I've learned anything in my 25 brief years, it's that I can never predict what's going to happen. So it will be interesting (for me, at least) to see how the next few months unfold....
