Day Eighty-Four
The slow trudge towards employment continues. I spoke to my UCLA supervisor-to-be this morning about salary: I told her my salary at USA and then gave her the amount I'd be looking to get in this job; she said she'd try to match it and get back to me. Then, in the early evening, I got an email from her saying she was doing her best to accomodate my salary request but it would probably be 7-10 days until she could make an offer. So the waiting shall continue; fear not, the unemployment blog lives on.
In the meantime I'd really like to get started on spending some of this soon-to-be had money. However, I don't want to go too nuts because there is that small chance that all this will fall through. I think maybe I'll just choose one item from the list of things-I've-been-wanting-to-buy-for-the-last-few-months-but-have-held-back-on. The list in part:
- Turntable and used record collection (mentioned previously)
- Playstation 2 and copy of "Dance Dance Revolution" with dance pad included. I think with the proper training I might be able to become the undisputed lord and master of DDR, and I'd like the opportunity to prove it.
- Apple AirPort Express, which lets you play all your iTunes music wirelessly through a stereo
- DVD sets of TV shows I don't already have: Buffy/Angel (later seasons), Family Guy (the whole series), Alias (2nd & 3rd seasons), Nip/Tuck, Everwood (1st season of each, which I completely missed), etc.
See, I'm making progress. Yesterday I was turning the job news into a trivial dilemma; today I'm turning it into an excuse to celebrate crass materialism. Baby steps, like they say.
Also, if I'm looking at another solid week and a half (presumably) of non-work, I should probably give myself a final writing project. I'm thinking the Joan of Arcadia script will be postponed until I can take another TV writing course at UCLA Extension (later in the month), so what I'll most likely do now is revise my recent screenplay into something less sucky. It won't be easy. Writing a script from scratch is fun in the same way that laying out a new bedroom is fun, whereas revising a script is un-fun in the same way that cleaning up an incredibly messy room is un-fun. After you look at it long enough, you just want to shut the door and keep all the guests in the living room.
