Day Eighty-Two

My second day of geocaching and once again it was exhausting. I tried this one, which involved no fewer than 12 separate locations throughout coastal Santa Monica. The way it worked was, you downloaded a document with a bunch of photos on it, and you had to find the location in each photo and write down its coordinates, and then once you had all the coordinates you'd add them all up and the answer would lead you to the final place where the cache is. I found all the locations, but when I got to the "mystery place" I was entirely stumped. And, as I said, exhausted, so I just gave up and went home. Later on I finally found a different one in Culver City and scored a Talking Heads tape.

Fun fact: in geocaching terminology, non-geocaching people that are walking around the area you're looking in are known as -- I'm not kidding -- geomuggles. (Or just "muggles" for short.)

Anyway, I have some bad news. The unemployment blog may not be long for this world. I got a voicemail this morning from the UCLA Development person telling me I'm now their number one choice. I'm not hired, they haven't made me an offer, but all that should be happening fairly soon, in theory (she said probably by the end of the week). They need to get "hiring clearance" and all that other mishigas. So I'm still not at all convinced I have the job. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if I get another call on Tuesday saying that, unfortunately, UCLA is not currently allowed to hire anyone whose last name begins with "R" and has two syllables. Or something.

Ah, screw this whole job business. I need to finish my play.

um, yes you need to finish your play and CLEARLY the unemployment blog does not need to be punished just because you are employed.

I will still have a blog once I start working, but it will not be the unemployment blog. It will be a new, different, fresher, more minty-tasting blog with no unpleasant side effects except for skin rash and dry mouth which usually occur in fewer than 10% of patients.
